The Sylvia Plath Forum

Poems inspired by Sylvia Plath

Devon, October 1962

I watch the horizon obsessively.
I am an arrow; I shoot straight for it.
The moon's white light fades, the sky is empty.

In the palm of your hand you held a bee.
I mistook you for god, then lightning hit.
I watch the horizon obsessively.

The fields are wet, green. The fences stony.
My horse has gone off, he could not resist
The moon's white. Light fades, the sky is empty.

The lanes' hedges lean in, tight but airy.
I believe in nothing; my heart is split.
I watch the horizon obsessively

For a sign of you, a signal to me
That you would like me to come and visit.
The moon's white light fades, the sky is empty.

I'm living too far away from the sea.
There is nothing to hold onto--that's it!
I watch the horizon obsessively.
The moon's white light fades, the sky is empty.
