The Sylvia Plath Forum

Poems inspired by Sylvia Plath

Edgelit

Dream the invisible--
not the wavering
flame itself,

but, moth-like, find
that aura of absolute
darkness at the light's edge,

the way your nightmare
finds the one thing
of which you are most afraid,

the shadow that stretches
from the base of the heart,
that stands, unchanging,

in the slanting light.
